wherifone-448.jpgWherify just announced that it would launch its family locator service and accompying Wheriphone GPS locator on October 1st. The phone will cost $100 and the basic service will cost $20 monthly. Wherify targets parents who would like to spy on their kids or keep track of other elderly family members with its new GPS locator service.

The 24-by-7 Wherify location service lets parents quickly locate their family members on maps or aerial photographs using a web browser, as well as allowing them to locate a Wherifone through text messaging from their existing cell phone service or by calling the Wherify service center.

There’s very little info provided about little, cleverly named wherifone GPS phone but the programming features of the phone sounds promising.

Three of the buttons on the front of the Wherifone can be programmed by parents to store the phone number of a close family member or friend for quick, one-touch dialing. Alternatively, one of these buttons can be programmed to send the child’s location when pressed. A fourth button provides access to a 20-number phone book, programmable only by parents, to store other commonly called numbers. A fifth button calls 9-1-1. All of the programmable buttons can be changed at any time by the parents through a secure website. A parent just fills out a simple web form, and an SMS message is sent to the Wherifone to program the buttons and the phonebook.

The company offers an all inclusive plans and promises to keep their service plans and fees straightforward to make it easy for parents to understand.
