track anything with Locate 1 MicroTrack GPS; but it’ll cost you!

We’ve had numerous articles for ways to track things/people using GPS technology. It looks like the Locate 1 from MicroTRAKgps is one of the more feasible options since anything Asian does not seem to make it to the U.S. The good news is Locate 1 is a full-featured tracking system with well thought features:

• ability to send text messages to a specific person
• battery can last up-to five days
• ability to track using a web interface
• ability to set speed limits and get informed when violated
• ability to set map limits and get informed when violated

Now onto the bad news: the cost!!! First off the device sells for $500 at SharperImage website. But it doesn’t end there. You’ll have to pay for annual subscription that ranges from $20/month to $50/month depending on how often you want to get updates (ranges from every 60 mins to every 5 mins). Plus you will be paying an activation fee that is either $15 or $25; the latter if you pay monthly.

Now let’s add it all up: $500 (hardware)+ $480 (1 year prepaid subscription) + $15 (activation) = $995 for the first year. Yikes!!
