An article came out yesterday comparing 4 different navigation systems. According to the article these are the four most popular GPS units sold in the US. We don’t really believe Lowrance iWay 500c can make it to the top four so there’s a chance the article was trying be ‘nice’ to other brands. Anyways here’s their top four:

  • Garmin StreetPilot i5 @ $399
  • Garmin Nuvi 350 @ $799
  • Navman iCN 650 @ $850
  • Lowrance iWay 500c @ $699

Here are the pros and cons for each:

Garmin StreetPilot i5
The good: Easy to use; accurate GPS receiver; affordable.
The bad: Small screen.

Garmin Nuvi 350
The good: Strong GPS receiver; lots of travel-friendly features.
The bad: Expensive; traffic receiver and travel-guide programs cost extra; no external volume control.

Navman iCN 650
The good: Maps preloaded on hard drive; remote control; easy to install; sturdy vehicle mount.
The bad: Inconsistent performance; no touch screen.

Lowrance iWay 500c
The good: Strong, accurate receiver; large touch screen; preloaded maps; built-in MP3 player.
The bad: Slightly heavy; USB port is version 1.1.
