Jul 25, 2006 garmin, gps navigation

Garmin just announced three new avionics suites. The G600 is specifically designed for retrofitting old planes. It can communicate and integrate with Garmin’s already existing panel mount products, and provides information such as attitude, air data, weather, terrain, and traffic. The G600 is thought as a way of upgrading from the old steam gauges to a modern glass cockpit. Costs $30,000.
The G900X is an avionics suite designed for kitplanes and will be availabe in the first quarter of July 2007 and will cost you about $67,000 (yes, 67 thousand).
The G900X avionics suite integrates all primary flight, navigation, communication, terrain, traffic, surveillance, weather, and engine sensor data on two 10.4-inch, high-definition LCDs. The color TFT displays on the G900X suite boast XGA (1,024×768-pixel) resolution with wide viewing angles.
Finally, the top of the line G1000 was announced to be available to retro-fit King-Air C90 aircrafts. Here are the features of the new G1000:
- A flightdeck that boasts a 10-inch primary flight display (PFD) and 10- or 15-inch multi-function display (MFD) with XGA (1024 x 768) resolution, wide viewing angles, and clear sunlight readability
- Dual integrated radio modules that provide IFR oceanic-approved GPS; VHF navigation with ILS; and VHF communication with 16-watt transceivers and 8.33-kHz channel spacing — built on the proven platform of the Garmin 400/500 avionics series
Digital audio control panels - Integrated Mode S transponders with Traffic Information Service (TIS) and optional diversity (Mode-C transponder also available)
- Integrated solid-state Attitude and Heading Reference Systems (AHRS)
- Integrated digital air data computers (optional RVSM compatibility)
- Optional four-color digital weather radar
- Optional integrated Class-B Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) with worldwide terrain and obstacle database
