Chrysler MyGiG hard drive allows for gps navigation system

Chrysler raises the bar on in-car technology with the MyGiG: a 20GB hard drive embedded in the dashboard for ripping CDs and for storing navigation data. Included is a Gracenote lookup engine to provide artist, track, and title information; this is the first use of Gracenote in a new-car audio system in North America.

There’s no question that the biggest highlight for Chrysler is the MyGig head unit (car talk for the radio), a single module. Here’s what’s included.

  • An AM/FM radio.
  • A CD/DVD player. It plays DVDs on the back seat’s optional display or on the front-seat LCD when the car is parked.
  • Embedded Sirius satellite radio. It’s a single chip in the radio, instead of a separate module, with real-time traffic reporting and the ability to route you around a traffic tie-up.
  • A 20GB hard drive. The drive is ruggedized for automotive use.
  • A USB jack. You use it for transferring music from memory keys. Also, a line-in jack for playing music off portable players. Unlike Fiat’s Blue&Me LINK and several replacement radios, this is for flash-based keys only, not music players. There’s no dedicated iPod controller option, though.
  • Two audio outputs. One goes to the car’s speakers, the second to the rear-seat headphones if buyers opt for the console-mounted rear-seat LCD display.
  • Bluetooth hands-free calling. It’s called U-Connect by Chrysler.
  • A 6.5-inch LCD panel. It also has a touchscreen and voice control.

The MyGiG hard disk holds navigation data, system software (about 1GB), up to 1,600 MP3 or WMA files (allocated a bit less than half the hard disk), and the Gracenote lookup engine. When you rip a CD, Gracenote music ID software provides the artist, title, and track information for the most popular of its 4 million CDs on file. You can also upload photos for a slide show and select one to be used as a screensaver.

The MyGig will be available initially in fall 2006 in one car from each of Chrysler’s three brands: the Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Nitro, and Jeep Wrangler. There’s also a 20GB hard drive in the console of the $85,000 Mercedes-Benz S-Class LINK, and while they’re both sourced through the Harman Group, a Chrysler spokesman says they’re different, particularly since the Mercedes uses its drive for navigation data only.

I currently own a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica and would like to inquire if there is an upgrade to the navigation/mapping CD that came with the car? CD drive is mounted in the rear of the car.

I just purchased a 2007 Jeep Wrangler sahara 5 days ago.
I turned on the jeep one morning, without changing anything and the navigation menus are in Spanish.

I repeatedly went to change it back in the System settings, I even turned off the vehicle in hopes it will change to english.

In the french setting it is telling me that it does not have the Uconnect module. Is there a Uconnect module in this model? Is the absence of the Uconnect module the difficulty?

I have a mygig for the 2008 Cherokee.

Re: 07 Wrangler, there is no UConnect module in the 2007 Wrangler.

    RE: 2004 PACIFICA

What version do you currently have? Look on the center of the dvd, or the case if you still have it. It will list the entire part number there.
The latest version available ends in AE.

When I bought It the Sales person from Dodge told me that there is an Upgrade and it costs about 400.00 .. I think I was lied to.
There is NO CD with the truck, it now is not in spanish I noticed one morning it switched from SAT 6 and listed 4 other sats, to one single satellite SAT 8 when I started it up one morning.

You would figure Jeep Wrangler would come with the feature specially when all the Buttons are there for the U-connect system. When you push the buttons on it it says UCONNECT DISABLED.

Some one also mentioned that there is NO mic..

why is there not any UCONNECT WITH THE JEEP WRANGLER?

I just purchased a new Chrysler Town & Country Limited 2008. When I bought the vehicle it had a regular radio AM-FM CD player. I told them I would purchase the van only if they would order and install the MYGIG system in it. Over two months later they called and said my Nav-System had arrived. I then took the van over and they installed it. For Christmas my wife got a new cell phone and a blue tooth. When we tried to program the phone to the vehicle, it would not work, the sound from the phone call came through the vans speakers as expected but we could not talk back. We found out later the microphone should have been in the rearview mirror, so back to the dealer we go. Wish us luck. I hope this helps someone. Thanks, Jim E.

I have an 08 Avenger RT that has the myGIG. Had it since July 2007 and I love the myGIG system. Software has been updated and the system is well supported. It is not in all Chrysler vehicles: some problems are from people wanting the system in vehicles not yet set up for what was intended to be a limited relase product to give certain vehicles a premium value.
There have been some growing pains but the company has fixed issues as they have arisen. The unit is awesome and has features no other system including Sync has, such as the ability to record to the HDD.
The navigation and uconnect systems are great and the sound system elements are are excellent.

I purchased a 2008 Sebring last Sept. I have repeatedly asked for an upgrade o to MyGig system. I can’t seem to get an answer as to whether or not there is one..My neighbor hood is over 5 yrs old and it isn’t in my system maps.. that is crazy. How am I suppose to rely on this system if it is out of date and this far at that..I am very disappointed in this..I was told I didn’t have to pay for an upgrade and now I know why. It is either the corporation ogiving the dealer poor support or the dealer isn’t being diligent enough to give me support. I guess once it leaves the lot you are on your own… Not happy in NC..

I have a 2008 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited with the MyGig system (GPS, DVD, SYRUS, etc), however my Uconnect will not work and bluetooth will not allow access. Both are installed but are blocked (as well as DVD unless in Park). I ordered th complete MyGig system but did not find out that part of it was blocked until later. Dealer will not help.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

  19. Carol F. Says:

I’m the third person to ask the question, but I too own a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica and would like to inquire if there is an upgrade to the navigation/mapping CD that came with the car? CD drive is mounted in the rear of the car. Where and how do you get updates? I purchased the car used, so don’t have the original CD or information about what version is now installed, but I’m sure it is the original version that came with the car so would like to have the most current mapping information.

I have a 2004 Pacifica with navigator. Is there an update program that can be down loaded on a disc ? Any help will be appreciated.

  21. Al Davis Says:

Look at your Mygig radio. If it says RER on the front right bottom. It already had uconnect on it. Jeep however did not install a microphone. You can install software updates and enable this feature. For all owners updates can be found on this site:

    http://www.mofv.com/mygig/

If you own a wrangler, you can purchase a new microphone at several sites. The cheapest I have found is:

    http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG_MICROPHONE.htm

Look at these sites. They have alot of information regarding Mygig systems.

  23. Zagreus Ammon Says:

I am delighted with my new ‘08 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, but I hate the nav system!!! It is idiosyncratically organized and infuriatingly out-of-date, especially given that our area if full of new subdivisions. It’s hard to get directions to a place that has no roads, according to an out-of-date system. I recently discovered that a local chain store location misidentified by MyGIG had closed 3 1/2 years earlier. Small town… maybe nobody bothered to update the database, so when we drove into Portland, I discovered that the closes Best Buy is 800 miles away.

Recently received a software update. I a installed it in anticipation. Real time traffic works better now, but still no Best Buy, no new subdivisions and no way to get updated GPS maps and points of interest.

    Not fun.

  24. Sherry Nauman Says:

I just ordered a new “navigation” CD for our 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. There was an update in February 2008. I found an 800# on the CD that was originally installed in the vehicle when we purchased it. You can call 1-866-733-5492 and they will gladly take your order and send you a new CD for $199 plus shipping.

The gig sounds pretty good. It is like having a mini computer right at your finger tips when you drive. I can definitly use the cd ripper. I love music.
