Acer d150 Portable Navigator

Acer is a relative newcomer in the in-car GPS unit market when compared to TomTom and Garmin, and this shows up in the Acer d150 Portable Navigator. Its large in-car cradle looks out of place in any dashboard and the quality of workmanship is found wanting. Although it fares poorly aesthetically, directional information was presented clearly, with the comprehensive POI database more than equal to the tasks thrown at it. When it comes to reliability software-wise, the d150 performs admirably. If only it could be complemented with a better presentation and more features to justify the relatively high price tag of £299.00. At a lower price, you can get stylish models with more features than the d150 from TomTom and Garmin.

I also want to know where I can get updates for my Acer d150 Navigator. Another hick-up is that this gadget takes me on detour roads to the required destination. It gets me there, but even when you specify shorter or faster road, it more often than not chooses some obscure road to the destination. I thought maybe the latest updates will rescue me from this, but I don’t see updates on the website http://www.acer.co.za. Please help, if you can.

I have contacted the Acer guys and was informed that a South African map update would cost around R5000! I’m wondering if their could be any other solution (maybe totally different software would also work?)

You advertize two free map updates every year, but now I see it will cost me R5000.00 for a update. I think you must take acer from the market because it cannot compare with any other navigator.
I am also going to the newspapers because of your faulse advertizing!

Unless I can get a SA map upgrade for my ACER D150 as I was promised when I bought the product, I will not buy or advise any one to buy an ACER product again !
