Mobile Gmaps new version out
Mar 26, 2006 gps navigation, software

In case you don’t know what it is; Mobile GMaps is a FREE application that displays Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, MSN Virtual Earth Maps (Windows Live Local) and Ask.com Maps and satellite imagery on Java J2ME-enabled mobile phones, PDAs and other devices. Last week they released a new version that claims to be bit more responsive. From reading the F.A.Q I get the feeling that some cell phones may not handle this application very well due to limited memory, but I guess it can only get better as manufacturers manage to pack more RAM in phones as time goes by. I say it is worth a try.

Version 1.23.04 beta is out, it re-adds support for the “simple” map panning mode, present in versions 1.1x. This will make the application more responsive on many phones. The v1.2x “enhanced” map scrolling mode is still available and can be enabled in Settings/Browsing.
