Presentation of the TWIG of Benefon, a mobile telephone with integrated GPS

(translated from its French version via babelfish) Benefon and Navteq announced the nearest arrival of the TWIG, a compact mobile telephone equipped with a receiver GPS integrated as well as software associated with navigation assisted by GPS. The TWIG was presented at the 3GSM World Congress of Barcelona, which made it possible to obtain new information on this one.

If the final design features of the TWIG are not known yet, this one was revealed officially a few days ago at the time of living room 3GSM World Congress of Barcelona. This reveals that the TWIG has of a screen TFT of 262 000 colors, of an integrated receiver GPS (chip Sirf 2), of a Bluetooth connector industry, a compatibility GSM and finally a software continuation of navigation GPS.

The TWIG lays out of more than one operating system interns enough succeeded graphically while remaining however rather rudimentary, having only traditional functions of transport, histories of the calls or of functions WAP.
The internal software of navigation assisted by GPS, created in partnership with Navteq, is rather purified but functions without jerks, makes it possible to post many POI with the screen and especially uses to it quasi totality of the screen to function.

This continuation of navigation assisted by GPS has a cartography of Navteq, of an interface of navigation in 2d and 3d with vocal guidance and of various levels of services available in option of which services of S.O.S, alarm of POI or of management of the traffic.

Lastly, the TWIG has advanced functions of management of lists of contacts, making it possible to or not send and receive co-ordinates GPS of contacts actuellements present on line and having also a TWIG, the whole with matérialisation of those directly on the numerical chart of the software of navigation GPS.

The TWIG is designed to be available in the current of the third quarter 2006 for a still unknown price.
