Transformer Prime GPS

Engadget got their hands on the ASUS GPS dongle for Transformer Prime. As you may already know Transformer Prime had GPS lock issues since it first came out and no software could fix the problem. ASUS recently decided that all users needed to get a GPS dongle to fix the problem for good.

Engadget was mostly happy with their hands on experience, citing satellite fix within 16 seconds of installation.

Asus Transformer Prime users to get a free GPS dongle

Asus Transformer Prime users haven’t had the best GPS experience yet. The company admitted it was their fault that the device could not get a solid GPS satellite fix. So their current fix for the time being is to offer each and every Transformer Prime user a free GPS dongle.

The reason they provided was that the external metal body of the tablet interfered with the GPS signals. So now the best they can do is to send an external GPS receiver:

It will look similar to the hinge from the dock. Where it will be a flush fit on the bottom of the unit if held in landscape matching the color of your Prime chassis.

The external GPS dongle will be ready by about mid-April but we’re not clear on the claim process yet.

garmin-asus A10

Not to be confused with garminfone or nuviphone M10 Garmin and Asus partnership just announced another Android powered phone called Garmin Asus A10.

Of course its focus is again on GPS navigation; however more so for pedestrians rather than drivers which probably means it’s probably not going to make it to the U.S. where driving almost always takes precedence. The press release actually says it will be available in mid-2010 in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Garmin-Asus A10 features a 3.2″ touch screen, electronic compass and a 1500mAh battery. Depending on your location the A10 will contain preloaded maps so you won’t have to rely on a data connection for maps which can be non-existent or just too expensive to use. Of course Garmin-Asus A10 will also work in your vehicle too - thanks to the powered audio mount.

Some other features of A10 include WebKit browser with multi-touch, 5MP camera with auto-focus, and auto-geotag, built-in accelerometer for horizontal and landscape views.

garminfone from T-Mobile

We just talked about Garminfone that will be exclusively available from T-Mobile. The phone is not out yet but some people managed to get their hands on the device, and unboxed it while documenting every step.

What makes Garminfone special is that fact that you’ll have Garmin’s expertise in GPS navigation always with you. The interface is familiar, maps are preloaded, and you can navigate to a location stored in a picture.
