Garmin today announced the zūmo 550, a complete navigation system designed for motorcyclists. The zūmo features an glove friendly touch screen with left handed controls that makes it easy to operate. The screen is super bright so no matter how sunny it is outside you’ll still be able to see where the next turn is. Not to mention the screen is UV resistant so it’ll last you many years. With the bluetooth feature you’ll have hands-free-to-helmet wireless capability. The zumo has a rugged design and comes with a special lock so you can safely remove it on your bike or scooter.

Zūmo also comes with pre-loaded City Navigator NT® map data and companion DVD-ROM, a motorcycle mount and mounting hardware with 12/24 volt power cable, an automotive mount with 12v cigarette lighter power cable, carrying case, logo stickers, AC charging cable, dashboard adhesive disk, USB interface cable, owner’s manual on disc, and quick reference guide. Zūmo is expected to be available in October 2006 and cost $1076.

    I hope Garmin finally extended their data logger size limit on this device. Currently even if memory is available only 10000 points can be stored.

    All we can think about is if this product actually delivers as stated, we’re going to start seeing a lot more of the touring sort running with these - especially the sport tourers along with the Goldwing type crowd.
