TomTom Rider 2 car mount

tomtom-rider-2-car-mount
As you know TomTom Rider 2 is a popular GPS navigation system for motorcycles. However we can not expect you to be on your bike at all times. Sometimes four wheels is a better option. Therefore TomTom has this windshield mount that lets you use your bike sat nav system from the comfort of your driver seat. The mount charges the device, can swivel in all directions, and thanks to the embedded speaker it can play spoken instructions.

I wonder if you’ll have to wear your motorcycle gloves just to operate the device….

tomtom-yourpnd.jpg
There are many GPS navigation systems out there giving you various voices and accents to select from, but wouldn’t you like to just listen to yourself once in a while? Well YourPND does just that. You can go to their website record your own voice when you are instructed to and in less than 10 minutes you’ll have the set of files that you can download to your TomTom device. All of this for only 7 €.

Of course you can also buy your files on a USB drive and ship it to a loved one as a present. Imagine the possibilities! However that costs 20 € including shipping.

Currently the supported systems are:

  • TOMTOM Navigator 5 and 6 for PDA, Palm, and PocketPC

  • all TOMTOM Rider models

YourPND plans on adding Garmin, MyGuide and Mio GPS navigation systems to their lineup soon.

XRoad RM-A4000 makes another appearance

xroad a4000

XRoad RM-A4000 which we talked about here at Navigadget before made another appearance in Korea just the other day under the Tibo name. Like we mentioned before this GPS navigation device for bikes is a nice alternative to TomTom Rider and Garmin Zumo who are pretty much in control of the whole market right now.

XRoad RM-A4000 features a nice joystick to make it easy to control with your gloves and a big bluetooth button to enable you to pair with your helmet or other bluetooth device.

It is expected to cost about $600… via

RM-A4000 from XRoad gives riders a new option

RM-A4000 - XRoad
The market for GPS navigation systems designed for riders is quite limited. The best ones out there are the Garmin Zumo and the TomTom Rider. Today we present a new brand – XRoad – entering the arena with their new model RM-A4000. There’s nothing too special about the circuitry or the software inside the RM-A4000; you get your usual 3.5″ screen, 64MB memory, SD card slot, and support for multimedia files.

The difference is in the exterior design, such as the visor-like cover to minimize the reflection, and the special joystick button to control the menus which make RM-A4000 quite unique. There’s also big button to activate bluetooth so you can pair up with your helmet – and possibly your cell phone.

There’s word that it would be available next month for about $600 – but not sure which country… via

TomTom RIDER 2 now available in U.S.

tomtom-rider-2-002.jpg
TomTom RIDER 2, which was announced months and months ago here at Navigadget, today officially became available in the U.S. for an MSRP of $700.

RIDER 2 is the latest and greatest navigation device from TomTom for bikers featuring high-quality bluetooth headset for in-helmet spoken instructions which also features noise cancellation feature to ensure that bikers can hear directions and phone calls clearly.

New RIDER 2 also has a new rugged RAM mount that can fit on almost anything with a handle bar and is waterproof to IPX7 standards.

It will come with maps of US and Canada preloaded on 1GB SD card and the internal lithium-polymer battery should last you up to 5 hours on a single charge.

TomTom RIDER 2 unveiled

tomtom-rider-2-002.jpg
Just last week we talked about how TomTom accidentally leaked a flash animation about the new Rider, Rider 2nd Edition to be exact. Well today the new animation is up and running accompanied with a press release.

In addition to being waterproof, the new TomTom RIDER comes with a new Cardo scala-rider™ Bluetooth® headset for in-helmet spoken instructions. The new headset fits open and closed helmets and has exceptional noise cancellation performance to ensure that bikers can hear directions and phone calls with unparalleled clarity. TomTom RIDER also comes with a new RAM® mount that fits on virtually all motorbikes and is easy to mount. Its design is renowned worldwide to withstand the toughest conditions bikers may encounter.

Like we mentioned the whole bike mounting kit is new. Now TomTom Rider comes with RAM mounts. But forget about the mounts for now. Other cool features of the new RIDER 2 includes being able to mount to your car’s windshield if you don’t feel like biking that day. The car kit costs an extra £80 though.

Another nice feature is the free Buddies service:

Free Buddies service: locate, invite and add friends to your RIDER. Check who’s in the area when you’re touring or see where friends are right now

This feature requires a bluetooth compatible phone with GPRS data service. TomTom RIDER 2 does not have its own SIM card (just yet).

The new Rider 2nd edition will be available in May 2007 and will approximately cost £300 – £400. The original TomTom Rider is still available for $551.

TomTom RIDER 2 almost revealed

One of our readers was nice enough to send us a few screenshots from a Flash animation for the new TomTom RIDER 2. Apparently the animation – which was live for several hours this morning – was put up on the site a bit earlier than planned. While we have no info on the specs, it looks like the mount has been completely redesigned.

Currently there’s no sign of a new RIDER on TomTom’s website. We’ll have to wait a bit more until it is officially announced.

TomTom is getting ready to release Car Connect

tomtom-car-connect.jpgWe just got the word that TomTom is getting to release a device called Car Connect, that will let you use your existing car audio system for voice guidance, music, etc. The bluetooth device is compatible with TomTom GO 510, 910, and TomTom Rider.

The Car Connect’s capabilities is not limited to audio only. The device can also switch your navigator from day to night view as soon as you turn your headlights on.

Since installation does require messing around with the electrical wiring in your car, professional installation is suggested, and required for warranty. You must be using TomTom software version 6.52 or greater for TomTom Car Connect to work.

Your car will need ISO-compliant connectors or an “Aux in” socket to support Car Connect.
