tomtom-xl-325
TomTom has a couple of new models out called TomTom XL 325, and TomTom XL 325-S. Their product pages on TomTom’s website lead to nowhere but at least Walmart has the product details up.

TomTom XL 325 has a 4.3″ widescreen, comes with maps of U.S. only and comes with TomTom’s famous Fold & Go EasyPort mount. How much? $130 only.

TomTom XL 325 S on the other hand is pretty much the same deal but adds text-to-speech functionality. However we don’t know how much this one will cost.

TomTom XL 340S Live

tomtom-xl-340s-live
TomTom just announced TomTom XL 340S Live. This is a mid-range GPS navigation system from the company with connected services. It will go for $300 which will include 3 months live connected services which we just mentioned. These include things like local search from Google, real-time traffic updates, weather information, and the cheapest fuel prices around.

TomTom XL 340S Live has a 4.3″ touch screen and is quite similar to the TomTom XL 740 Live. However it lacks bluetooth connectivity for hands free calling – and the live services are on AT&T’s network.

Another cool feature with this new GPS navigation system is that it uses TomTom QuickGPSfix which utilizes A-GPS to get a satellite location fix faster.

The connected services for TomTom XL 340S Live will cost $10/month after the first month.

One of TomTom’s highly popular European models, the TomTom XL Live is getting ready to come out in the U.S. The new model just passed all the tests FCC could throw at them.

U.S. version of the TomTom XL Live will work on GSM850 and GSM1900 bands, come with a 1100mAh battery, and have a slim form factor. Everything else being the same TomTom will also release TomTom XL Live TTS which will offer text-to-speech functionality.

That’s really all the information we can get since all their FCC documents including test setup photos are under a confidentiality agreement.

TomTom for iPhone + car kit

tomtom-iphone-kit
Interwebs on the other side of Atlantic are talking about TomTom’s iPhone GPS navigation app and the kit that you should get (but optional) with it. It looks like an online seller is already offering both the app and the car kit (not yet in stock) for a total of £113.85 which equals to about $193.

So – what do you think about this price? We want to know. No monthly fees. Just about $200 which will get you a car charger, ability to stream music to your car stereo, etc.. in addition to the GPS navigation system.

By the way we have some more details on this car kit:

  • 1. ‘EasyPort’ mount – same one from TomTom ONE and XL
  • 2. Speaker for the voice directions and the hand-free calls + external GPS receiver
  • 3. Volume control
  • 4. Microphone for hand-free calls
  • 5. USB connector
  • 6. audio jack to use your car’s audio

Oh, and it will work on iPod Touch we hear.

tomtom-xl-340
Also announced just today from TomTom was TomTom XL 340 and TomTom XL 340S. Just like the TomTom ONE 140 we mentioned earlier, the two new 340 models will also include the IQ Routes and Advanced Lane Guidance feature. These two features used to be exclusive to higher end models but now they’re standard on the mid-range sat nav devices.

The two new models have a 4.3″ touch screen, come with maps of North America and Mexico, 7 million points of interests, and come with the award winning EasyPort mount.

The only difference between TomTom XL 340 and TomTom XL 340S is that “S” speaks street names, and of course the price. 340 and 340S will cost $230 and $250 respectively – both available in USA and Canada starting this month.

TomTom saves money on gas, but won’t pump it for you…

TomTom GPS has unveiled an interesting new feature for some of its models that will direct you to the gas station with the least expensive prices. GPS systems have always been able to direct you to the closest gas station, but TomTom takes that to the next level by directing you to the cheapest gas station in the area.

Set up is fairly straightforward and you don’t need to be particularly tech savvy in order to do it. First make sure you have a TomTom that is compatible with the service. As of right now the models that are compatible are, the GO-930, GO 920T, GO-920, GO-730, GO-720, 330XLS, 330, 130s, and the 130. I’m sure other models will be added soon so check back often if yours is not listed.

The TomTom HOME software can be downloaded from their web site . You can then connect your TomTom to your home pc or mac and the synch process will begin automatically. Simple click on TomTom go and then device will download the latest fuel prices. You can also search by the grade of fuel you use.

The subscription based application is priced at a reasonable $14.95 per year. The way gas prices have been climbing in recent months this may be the best $14.95 you’ve spent all year.

TomTom ONE XL II
