If you’ve been following Navigadget you should have an idea what Viliv X70 is. In case you don’t; Viliv X70 is a communication MID, or a UMPC if you prefer to call it that. The device has a built in GPS, suction cup window mount, and cigarette lighter adapter that makes a suitable to use in your car – as a GPS navigation system.

Well someone at StreetDeck got their hands on a pre-release version of the X70 and posted a short review video – here is that:

streetdeck demo on Wi-Fi and GPS enabled VW

streetdeck-demo-vw.jpgIf you’ve been following Navigadget you must’ve heard about StreetDeck. It is basically a car UMPC that’s a colloborative effort with Intel. Now they pimped up this VW Passat and equipped it with Wi-Fi capabilities that let drivers stream music and download directions. The video demonstrates almost all the functionalities, including GPS. Just like most other GPS systems, StreetDeck uses regular maps, but it can also overlay Google Earth like satellite images onto your map.

You can learn more about StreetDeck on their own website and for further geekier details you join the forums at mp3car.

Intel demo UMPC uses StreetDeck software

This is a video from CNET that gives you a little demo of one of the UMPC devices that should be on the market soon. What is interesting is that it uses the StreetDeck software that we have mentioned last month sold by MP3Car.com. You can watch the video here.

From this year’s Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, CNET’s Justin Jaffe gives a first look at the new Ultra Mobile PC and ConsumerLaptop Concept. Intel’s Director of Marketing, Brad Graff, also shows off new software from StreetDeck that turns the PC into an interactive media center.

the ultimate in-car gadget; streetdeck by MP3CAR

OK, the whole system is made up of two parts: the hardware that lets you install a PC into your car and the StreetDeck software which is the in-car software platform. The device was co-developed with Intel and it was recently showcased at DEMO2006. Since you’ll end up having a whole PC in your car the possibilities are endless. In addition to these features listed on their funky looking website:

* Touch Screen Control
* Navigation & Mapping
* Bluetooth Phone Integration
* Satellite Radio
* Vehicle Diagnostics
* Rear-view Camera Support
* CD player/MP3 Extraction
* MP3 Player
* FM Radio
* DVD/Video Player
* Picture Viewer

you can use your creativity and may want to install a server, printer?, external HD, wi-fi hotspot, TV-tuner, iPod dock, etc…

“MP3Car has introduced the first hardware that allows a conventional PC to completely replace and surpass the functionality of a conventional car stereo or navigation system.

Co-developed with Intel Corporation, the Enabler is the critical “missing link” for car computing, providing all the essential in-car services that PC motherboards lack, including car-quality audio and FM receivers, satellite radio, and hands-free Bluetooth mobile phone integration.

MP3Car developed the first complete in-car software platform, StreetDeck, which was recently released at CES 2006. This car computing Enabler completes the puzzle, allowing PC and CE manufacturers to develop hardware systems that integrate perfectly and safely with the car.

“By providing this reference design, we’ve created an open architecture for any PC designer to enter the automotive market with far less effort. We’ve also allowed automakers to adopt PCs, instead of embedded and closed systems, as their infotainment and telematics platform,” says Damien Stolarz, CTO.

“We’re have developed excellent relationships with key automakers, and our introduction of the first ever car computer enabler at DEMO2006 is a key step in helping our hardware partners provide them with a complete car-computing solution,” says Robert Wray, MP3Car CEO.”
