Spectec SDG-812 finally arrives to U.S – includes bluetooh

Spectec SDG-810 that we talked about back in January is finally coming to U.S. with only one difference: It also features bluetooth connectivity and will be called SDG-812. Other than that the tiny all-in-one GPS navigation solution that doesn’t require any cables, batteries for Pocket-PC’s is pretty much the same – and just yesterday it got the approval from FCC.
Here are the features of SDG-812:
- SiRF Star III high performance, low power consumption chipset
- Built-in high sensitivity helix GPS antenna
- LED to show GPS fix or not
- Built-in capacitor to receive system data for rapid satellite acquisition
- Bluetooth interface
- Operating platform: Windows CE, Windows Mobile, Windows XP, Symbian, Linux, Palm and Mac
We still don’t have any info on who will be offering this bluetooth GPS receiver here in the U.S.
Haicom of Taiwan just introduced a new bluetooth GPS navigation device called the HI-505SD, that takes power from the host device (such as your PDA, laptop, UMPC, etc…) and therefore does not require a battery.
This new SD GPS receiver from Spectec – SDG-810 – is probably the only such device that can provide GPS function through an SD slot while allowing you to use an microSD card in the same space. This will be very useful for those who have limited memory available on their handheld devices and only one SD slot for the maps. If you get the SDG-810 you can copy all your maps onto a microSD card and stick into the side of your SD GPS receiver and you have yourself a GPS navigation sytem.
