Navigon Porsche P9611

porsche-p9611-954.jpgBack at CES2007 Navigon was also promoting a new GPS navigation system called P9611, a colloboration between Navigon and Porsche. This system uses Navigon’s MobileNavigator Premium software which in our opinion looks better than any of the Garmin interfaces.

The hardware on the P9611 is also pretty impressive. It features a 4.3″ screen, bluetooth hands free communication support, 1400mAh Li-Ion battery.

You also get Zagat points of interest data pre-loaded. It’s not for sale anywhere yet but expected to be available in Summer
2007 for an MSRP of $899.

More features and pics after the jump…

P9611 navigation system designed by Porsche

navigon-P9611-943.jpg
Rumors were true! The navigation system P9611 we reported before is really a colloabaration between Porsche and Navigon.

GPSandCo was able to report some info on the new P9611, but all in French. From what we can understand P9611 features two processors, one of them PXA 270 at 520 MHz for analytics, calculations, etc.. and the other for graphics brought together by a Linux operating system.

Sounds like the P9611 will come with a removable battery and the cone shaped windshield mount will have integrated speakers inside. The 4.3″ screen provides a 16:9 viewing area where you can operate the Navigon MobileNavigator 6 software.

Instead of using traditional chip GPS SiRF III, this PND uses the moon chip µ-blox Antaris4 SuperSense. Let us hope that it will be as sensitive as SiRF III.

The system will come preloaded with locations of radars and such to keep you out of trouble but we don’t for which country.

the real Porsche navigation system

porsche-gps-945.jpg
The other day we talked about a concept design navigation system that Porsche and Navigon were working on, called the P9611. After a visit to their website we saw that the only GPS system Porsche offered was an in-dash radio size dot-matrix style system which required an additional GPS receiver to be attached – somewhat to similar what Becker offers.

Germans were able to pack a lot of cool stuff in this compact size product. Called the TrafficPro; this navigation system packs all the features of a conventional satellite navigation system, plus a comprehensive range of additional functions, such as multiple stop routes and 50 destination point memory. The display is a high-quality dot-matrix design, while road network data for the 48 contiguous states is provided on two CDs.

Before you begin your journey, simply enter your destination using a single rotary control. Route guidance information is delivered visually on the dot-matrix display as well as in the form of voice output via the standard audio speakers (in English, French, or Spanish). With its compact chassis, the TrafficPro is almost as easy to install as a conventional car audio system.

According a Dutch online magazine this GPS navigation system (which looks like an LCD screen attached to the wide end of a road cone) is designed by Porsche. The auto-translation from Dutch reveals that Porsche is collaborating with Navigon on this and conveniently decided to name it P9611 combining the flagship products from each side.

the translation:
