Nokia just announced a new version of Nokia 5800 called Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition. It is expected to come out third quarter of this year and it comes pre-loaded with a lifetime of voice-guided Drive and Walk navigation licenses for your region. That’s lifetime! Not your lifetime – the 5800’s lifetime that is.

Other neat things about the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is that it comes with your navigation software set up, and even includes car charger and Nokia car kit. Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition offers voice-guided navigation and local traffic warnings. The maps on the device are from Ovi Maps which includes points of interest and local weather reports.

Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition will cost 285 €.

ViewRanger maps for Nokia 5800

Cambridge, UK based Augmentra just announced that their mapping, navigation, and tracking software ViewRanger is now available for Nokia 5800 and other Symbian S60 touch screen mobile phones.

ViewRanger is an off-road satellite navigation application that provides detailed topographic maps across Europe with points-of-interests and leisure route guides. Maps can be downloaded directly to the handset using WiFi or 3G, downloaded to an SD memory-cards to put onto the device.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a great device for running ViewRanger with its 3.2″ widescreen display, fingertip and stylus control, automatic screen rotation, and tactile feedback. In addition the 3.2MP camera is ideal for geo-recording your outdoor photos and locating and sharing them with ViewRanger’s TravelLog capability.

Detailed topographic maps, sourced from national mapping agencies, and other content is available for a growing global community including Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Ireland, parts of Italy, Norway, Slovenia and Switzerland.
