U.S. version sells for $90. Other versions include Brazil, Turkey, Europe, Russia, Australia, and South Africa. Maybe a car kit from is expected. (iTunes)

GreenDrive

road-guard
There’s a relatively new application for drivers out there called GreenDrive developed by Road-Guard. GreenDrive was selected as a runner-up for the European Satellite Navigation Competition in 2008.

GreenDrive works by suggesting the most economical driving style to the driver. When you’re too slow or too fast it’ll tell you to speed up or break so you’re always driving close to the optimal speed for fuel efficiency. GreenDrive can be installed on GPS navigation devices or GPS powered cell phones.

GreenDrive™ is an award-winning solution that guides drivers to develop smart, smooth, and safe driving techniques that lead to an average fuel savings of 15-25% and positively contributes to environmental protection.

GreenDrive can also collect data on driver performance and let you analyze it using a web application – which can provide feedback for better driving habits.

NDrive Touch

NDrive has a few new models out with some upgraded specs. If you remember NDrive is the Portugese company that was first to put a breathalyzer on a GPS navigation system and they really focus on providing satellite images for drivers.

Anyhow, their four new models are as follows:

  • NDrive Touch 3.5″ (1GB) Iberia Premium – €139
  • NDrive Touch XL 4.3″ (1GB) Iberia Premium – €199
  • NDrive Touch 3.5″ (8GB) Europe -
  • NDrive Touch XL 4.3″ (8GB) Europe – €249

Apparently these new models are 40% lighter and a little slimmer. NDrive Touch is equipped with version 3.3 of the NDrive navigation system which allows for a more fluid navigation through aerial images (10 images per second!!!) which according to NDrive is a first in the industry to provide such greater quality for visualization of the information.

Also all NDrive Touch models have a luminosity sensor which allows the user to control the 3D photo navigation with gestures on the screen… Read More …

NDrive G800

NDrive G800 is now official after NDrive G700 which we mentioned a couple of months ago. Engadget is reporting that the G800 will provide aerial photos in addition to regular maps and will include other high end features such as visual and audible speed camera alerts, pedestrian mode for when you’re on foot, various media players with an SD card extension, a built-in Bluetooth and an FM transmitter to utilize your car’s existing audio system.

G800 is expected to hit the market in the UK for £ 315 ($630).

P.S. If you figure out what the little red envelope icon is for do leave a comment below. Maybe G800 also has WiFi?

navigation system with breathalyzer

ndrive-breathalyzer.jpg
We have already mentioned NDrive twice within the last week but we’re going to have to bring them up once again, thanks to their world’s first GPS navigation system with a breathalyzer. The G400 has an actual alcohol sensor on its side and can tell you the amount of alcohol per liter in your blood.

When you first start the application it calibrates; accounting for the already present amount in the environment and the sensor, and then it asks you to blow. Seriously! Check out the video:

It is coming soon… in Portugal for only 200 €… Read More …

NDrive navigation software

ndrive-gps.jpg
At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Portuguese brand Ndrive presented the latest version of their GPS navigation software for smart phones, symbians, as well as PDAs with Windows Mobile.

A nice feature of this navigation software is that it can display 3D renderings of buildings while routing the user. Ndrive uses photographs coming from the Spanish company Blom which specializes in high quality geographical information.

The demo for the software was rather impressive, it is quite smooth, but we’ll have to wait and see if it is really useful. We do not have information on the number of POIs yet but it is planned to be released at the end of March.

One thing to note is that data for all these aerial images takes a lot of space: 2 GB for Madrid for example. Therefore it is necessary to install only certain cities in 3D photographs and let the remainder of the country or Europe be installed in normal graphical mode.

Ndrive uses maps from Tele Atlas. Maps of Europe on DVD will cost 98 €… Read More …
