Navigon iPhone car kit due Nov 3?

navigon-iphone-mount

According to twice Navigon is considering releasing the iPhone car kit under their own brand. Earlier news about Navigon car kit were suggesting a partnership with Kensington to manufacture a universal mounting kit that would work with any application. This was supposed to be available at Apple stores starting November 3 but Navigon’s president of the Americas Michael Roach said:

We’re still evaluating the U.S. market … We’re leaving the option open right now…

Kensington announcement was that their universal car kit would cost $39 and could amplify voice directions thanks to its integrated speakers while charging the iPhone. The car kit will have Navigon’s logo on it along with some screenshots on the packaging.

A couple of months ago Gizmodo did a comparison of different GPS navigation applications for the iPhone. They now have a part II for that. This time they’re covering more of the “second tier” applications – just because they’re a bit cheaper, and not as well advertised. Anyhow – we have all the iPhone GPS navigation apps listed here.

The GPS navigation apps reviewed are CoPilot Live from ALK, Gokivo GPS Navigator from NIM, and Sygic.

navigon’s iPhone navigation app now even better

navigon-iphone-traffic
Navigon keeps improving their GPS navigation app for the iPhone. They already added the text-to-speech, iPod controls functions a few weeks ago, and just recently they announced they’d be adding live traffic updates to the already very popular application. Even though it will cost you $25 it is really not that bad considering it is a one time fee.

You can pick up the main navigation application for $90, the live traffic updates for $25, and you’ll have a fully functional GPS navigation system for less than $120. While you’re at it you can also pick up the Navigon car kit but we don’t know how much that will cost just yet.

Navigon iPhone car kit

navigon-car-kit
Navigon is getting ready to release a car kit for the iPhone with charging capabilities as we found out from their FB page. It says the car kit will be available in October this year. And it will only charge and hold your iPhone in place. Do not look for GPS receiver, speaker, microphone, bluetooth here. For those you may keep waiting for the TomTom car kit.

We don’t have any more details on Navigon’s iPhone car kit. We’ll let you know once we find out how much it will cost. We do however know how much Navigon’s iPhone App costs these days: $90.

Navigon updates their GPS navigation app for iPhone

navigon-iphone-update
Navigon – one of the companies that offers GPS navigation app for the iPhone has updated their application – less than a month after their first launch.

The update – which is free for those who has already purchased the application will offer a few extra features – but there’s no mention of updated maps.

This version of the navigation app will let users plan for multiple destinations ahead of time. It will also let you directly call numbers listed for a given POI (point of interest) and add to your contacts list if you wish.

Apparently Navigon’s MobileNavigator does not currently support text-to-speech but it will be one of the features that will be added soon.

Navigon’s iPhone app is currently $70 but will start selling for $100 after August 31st.
