asus r710 hud demo

Asus R710 with heads up display (HUD) was announced on Navigadget a while ago but we were left wondering what it actually looked like on a windshield.

Now we have a video of Asus R710 with HUD doing a demo at some trade show.

The HUD (Heads Up Display) projects navigation instructions that include directions, speed etc. on the windshield in front of the driver. This not only helps users focus on the roads ahead, it also prevents users to be distracted by the device itself – hugely improving car safety.

The Asus R700 family has a new member called Asus R710 and this one has a very special feature. According to engadget Asus R710 has a mini projector that can display navigation related information on your windshield. If that’s really the case this will be the first for a GPS navigation device to integrate a projector for HUD purposes.

That’s all the details we have for Asus R710. We’ll be sure keep you update if more information comes up.

HG-100 goes through FCC – looks beat up

hg-100-gps-01.jpgThe HG-100 GPS based heads up display we mentioned here at Navigadget makes it through FCC – but during photoshoot it doesn’t look anything like the computer generated pics. But looks aren’t everything – so there’s still hope.

hg-100-gps-02.jpgHG-100 is a device that combines Heads-Up Display (HUD), GPS, and Bluetooth. With HUD, car heading and speed are being projected onto the windshield so drivers can keep their eyes on the road. HG-100 has also the Over-Speed Alert function to remind drivers with when they’re stepping on the gas pedal a bit too hard. The GPS receiver is from MediaTek Inc. and it provides the 32 channel all-in-view satellite tracking, 5Hz update rate function to show the most detailed position fix. HG-100 also has Bluetooth interface function, so you can pair it up with your PDA, Smart Phone and laptop computer to enable these devices with GPS navigation feature (must bring your own navigation software).

HG-100 HUD GPS speed meter live pics

hud-gps-451.jpg
Engadget was able to get some live shots of the new heads up display (HUD) from GlobalTop called HG-100. We can definitely say that computer generated pics of the device looked a lot nicer. They also mention the display wasn’t very clear on an untinted window. But this is a new technology in consumer electronics market. Congrats to GlobalTop for the effort. It will be available in Europe this year and is expected to cost about 75€.

GPS based head up display (HUD) speed meter

Yes, this GPS based system actually projects your speed and direction on your windshield so you don’t have look down to read your dashboard. Just like jet fighter planes. The image may look like it is only a rendering of a concept device, but apparently these guys will receive this device via FedEx to do a review in the next week or so. It is manufactured by a company called GlobalTop and is officially named GPS HUD Speed Meter – it will be displayed at CeBIT.

Here are some of the features:

  • displays speed and direction
  • speed warning function which can be set up by user
  • receives 32 channels ensuring high accuracy speed and position information
  • integration via Bluetooth for connection to Smartphone or PDA navigation programs

Not sure how and why this device would need to talk to your PDA though. Maybe to setup those speed limit warnings… We’ll keep you posted.
