HTC HD2 GPS navigation

Here is a video of CoPilot and TomTom apps being tested on an HTC HD2 with WinMo.

Looks pretty sleek. However with CoPilot landscape mode isn’t all the efficient for making use of that screen. TomTom does a better job. HTC HD2 is a giant phone by the way…

waze demo video

As you know we talked about Waze a while ago – and if you read that review you might know that our trial didn’t go that well. Well they now have a demo video up and of course it works flawlessly there. Waze provides crowd sourced maps, and traffic information. Of course it provides voice guided GPS navigation too.

Check out the video if you want to know more about Waze.

Some of the other specs include WiFi, 3.2MP digital camera with auto focus, microSD card slot, accelerometer, GPS, A-GPS support, bluetooth, and of course 3G connectivity. nuviphone will cost $300

garmin-asus-nuviphone-g60
Some rumors on the interwebs are suggesting the nuviphone G60 will go for $300 after a two year contract and a $100 mail-in-rebate. That is quite pricey – and straight up it is even worse. Without a contract it will cost $550 – almost worth 2 low end netbooks :) even though we realize that is not a fair comparison.

As you know nuviphone already came out in Asia couple of months ago and we’ve been waiting for the North America launch for a looong time.

TomTom navigation coming to Android

tomtom-android
We hear TomTom GPS navigation app that just came out for the iPhone will be available for the Android platform – even though no release date were mentioned.

During this mini interview with VP for TomTom, Benoit Simery said their app would come out for Android – since HTC is such a solid device but people on S60 and Blackberry would have to wait a little longer.

There was no indication of TomTom working on a hardware platform of their own – and they still think a standalone GPS navigation systems will be with us for years to come.

Oh yeah – we shopped the above image.

copilot-live-android
ALK Technologies just announced recently that their CoPilot Live GPS navigation system is now available for Android phones. You can already grab it from Android Market for your HTC Magic, HTC Dream or the new HTC Hero – for only $35.

With CoPilot the maps are stored locally on the phone, rather than relying on wireless internet which can be quite slow at times. Here are some features of CoPilot Live for Android:
