GPS apps for Palm Pre

palm-pre-gps-apps
We just wanted to quickly talk about available GPS apps for Palm Pre, or any kind of app that uses GPS.

These include the Go To, Geocache Locator, Longtitude, GolfPinFinder, Jobr, PREtracker, Where, and of course TeleNav.

Go To: This one is for storing, and finding waypoints, and has a good looking compass too. It can get you directions to get you close to the cache and can start satellite view when you’re closer. The question is will you have a data service when you’re out in the wilderness looking for geocaches??

Geocache Locator: As you can tell from its name, Geocache Locator find all the caches around you given a certain radius. It connects to geocaching.com to do this.

Longtitude: This one updates your location on a site – more specifically your site. You’ll need to have a webserver running with certain PHP files so your friends can track you down.

GolfPinFinder: This one is just a golf gps range finder. It gets the data from BBGPSGOLF. It gets you the distance from front, center and back of the green, tee and up to 5 additional points.

Jobr: This one is job search application that gets a keyword from your and looks up your position from the built in GPS.

PREtracker: Sounds like the most useful out of it all. This one tracks your position and pace while you’re out running, hiking, biking, etc…

Where: This one looks up businesses and other points of interest around you. Again very useful. It can go into more detail such as movie times, gas prices, and traffic info stuff.

TeleNav: GPS navigation for your Palm Pre…

TeeShot Live: GPS app for golfers

teeshot-live
TeeShot Live is an iPhone app for golfers to improve their game. It mostly provides statistics and keeps track of your numbers such as strokes, putts, fairways, sand saves, etc.. You can keep score of up to 4 players, see how you’re doing on the same hole over time, check status for current or all rounds, and finally email scores to your buddies when you’re done.

But it’s not all stats though. You can review and download course descriptions for their site and see the distance from your last shot and to the green on courses tagged with GPS locations.

They just announced version 2.0 which can keep your GPS receiver on for a longer time to better accuracy and speed. It can even overlay satellite view of the course with each one of your shots marked.

TeeShot Live costs $20.

There’s a new GPS device for golfers out there called OnPar. It seems slightly more advanced than the rest; just based on the fact that OnPar has a touchscreen interface.

OnPar is basically is a touchscreen GPS finder that can help the player by providing a dynamic hole layout display and GPS positioning that provides instant distances to anywhere and remaining distance to the green, personalized club averages, and simple score and shot tracking.

OnPar can store upto 300 courses in its memory and does no membership fees or course map fees.

OnPar has a 3.5″ screen, and measures only 0.63″ in thickness. Even though the pricing is yet not revealed we know it will be available at a few specialty stores starting in early February this year.

  • pre-loaded golf courses
