UMID F1 UMPC with GPS

We love anything with a GPS receiver, that is portable, has a nice big screen, and includes a breathalyzer! Well, this UMPC from Korea called UMID F1 gets a check mark for all those and thus makes it to the front page of Navigadget.

Other specs we would like to mention are the remote controller, HSDPA and WiMax network support, WiFi, Bluetooth, digital TV receiver (DMB tuner), FM receiver, and a 60GB HDD.

Comes with Windows XP Home with either 512MB, or 1GB memory. We’re not sure how much it costs just yet.

NDrive Touch

NDrive has a few new models out with some upgraded specs. If you remember NDrive is the Portugese company that was first to put a breathalyzer on a GPS navigation system and they really focus on providing satellite images for drivers.

Anyhow, their four new models are as follows:

  • NDrive Touch 3.5″ (1GB) Iberia Premium – €139
  • NDrive Touch XL 4.3″ (1GB) Iberia Premium – €199
  • NDrive Touch 3.5″ (8GB) Europe -
  • NDrive Touch XL 4.3″ (8GB) Europe – €249

Apparently these new models are 40% lighter and a little slimmer. NDrive Touch is equipped with version 3.3 of the NDrive navigation system which allows for a more fluid navigation through aerial images (10 images per second!!!) which according to NDrive is a first in the industry to provide such greater quality for visualization of the information.

Also all NDrive Touch models have a luminosity sensor which allows the user to control the 3D photo navigation with gestures on the screen… Read More …

Geosat 6 Drive Safe with alcohol sensor

After Portugese, now Italians have a GPS navigation system with a breathlyzer. This one is from AvMap and it is called Geosat 6 Drive Safe.

Thanks to Geosat 6 Drive Safe, drivers can now check their blood alcohol level before driving.

The new Geosat 6 Drive Safe comes with built-in sensor for alcohol test: this will allow the driver to decide whether they are sober enough to drive. Taking the test is very easy: select the alcohol tests button on the touch screen, get close to the sensor and blow to get the results immediately to see whether it is wise for you to be behind the wheel.

Expected to hit the market for € 450 in Italy this month, this GPS navigation system also has other features that could really make driving safer – such as the 4.8″ touch screen, bluetooth for taking hands free calls, and text-to-speech feature to avoid looking the GPS display… Read More …

navigation system with breathalyzer

ndrive-breathalyzer.jpg
We have already mentioned NDrive twice within the last week but we’re going to have to bring them up once again, thanks to their world’s first GPS navigation system with a breathalyzer. The G400 has an actual alcohol sensor on its side and can tell you the amount of alcohol per liter in your blood.

When you first start the application it calibrates; accounting for the already present amount in the environment and the sensor, and then it asks you to blow. Seriously! Check out the video:

It is coming soon… in Portugal for only 200 €… Read More …

switchback UMPC with GPS

switchback-493.jpgDeveloped by Black Diamond Advanced Technology, the SwitchBack-PC is an industrial grade UMPC that can stand working in harsh environments. The SwitchBack (named that way because you can actually switch the hardware add-ons on the back of the device) is designed to meet or exceed military specifications for shock, vibration, dust, moisture and extreme temperatures.

One of the most unusual features of the SwitchBack UMPC is that it can run multiple operating systems at the same time (Win XP, Win Mobile, Win CE, Linux) without needing a reboot. The other unique feature is what gives this UMPC its name: the capability to switch between various hardware add-ons instantly. That means you can switch between a digital camera to a terrestrial radio within seconds and when you are finally lost you can just slap on the SAASM GPS receiver to find way to the base.

The Switchback runs on a Intel 1.0 GHz Celeron M processor and comes with a 40GB HDD. The display measures 5.6 inches (1024 x 600) and is actually viewable under direct sunlight. Other wireless services other than GPS include Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and Wi-Fi b/g.

Weighing only 3lbs the SwitchBack is lighter than most other military grade personal computing devices.
