LG LN835, with its 3.5″ display, is the smallest of the new LG LN series which was announced for 2008.

The speakers is on the back side of the device, and it also has an SD/MMC slot on the side. Another feature is the bluetooth hands free capability when paired up with a proper phone.

It’s been announced for a while but we still haven’t seen it here on the U.S. side.

LG’s other new addition to the LN series at CES 2008 was LN845 which boasts a sharp 4.3″ screen, 5 hours battery life, and bluetooth phone pairing for handsfree calls.

It’s only difference from LN855 is that LG LN845 does not have an TMC receiver for traffic updates.

LG LN855

lg-ln855.jpg
We had a chance to stop by LG’s huge booth at CES 2008 and find out more about their new GPS navigation systems. They’ve expanded their LN lineup with three new models. The LG LN835, LN845, and the latest and greatest LG LN855.

LN855 has a 4.3″ widescreen LCD display that looks great on its slim body. LN855 supports access to real time traffic information in 50 North American cities via an integrated RDS-TMC antenna. Of course it also does turn-by-turn voice guidance while pronouncing street names thanks to its text to speech technology. Bluetooth voice calling, phone book sync and music streaming is standard on the new LG LN855 and also has audio out and headphone jack in addition to USB Port and SD Card Slot.

More specs:

  • 5 hour battery life
  • over 4 million points of interests

LG LN800 coming to Europe

lg ln 800
Korean brand LG is adding a new high-end GPS navigation device to its LN family – a successor to LN 700 which we talked about here at Navigadget before. The new GPS navigation system will simply be called LN800 (and LN800T).

LG LN-800 has a 4″ screen with a 320×240 resolution which is unusual since at this size we would expect the usual 480×272 pixel resolution. This new model uses GPS SiRF III like many others and the maps are stored in the internal memory. The navigation software is Destinator 6 with maps supplied by Navteq. LN800 has voice synthesis making it possible to announce the street names during voice guidance.

Compared to the LN800, the LN800T also includes RDS/TMC traffic receiver.

More features:

  • Integrated SiRF III GPS receiver with integrated antenna
  • 4 inch touch screen with 256K colors, 240×320 pixels resolution, and 300 cd/m² brightness
  • Centrality Atlas 2 processor at 276 MHz
  • 512 MB of ROM
  • 64 MB of RAM

LG LN740 provides best route

lg-ln740-gps-001.jpg
LG LN740 just got reviewed and it received an impressive report card from the picky reviewers. In fact when it comes to routing it even did better than brands like Garmin and Magellan, probably thanks to the software engineers that made the most out of the Navteq maps on board which provides maps U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico on a 2GB internal flash memory card.

The LG LN740 is an extremely capable navigation device that exhibited some of the best routing logic I’ve seen to date. The interface is relatively simple to use, the mounting hardware is effective, and the unit includes everything you’ll need to receive real-time traffic data.

Overall the LN740 is an excellent GPS. However, I found the 4-inch display of lesser quality (brightness and resolution) than other competing 4-inch models from Magellan and Garmin. The traffic service requires an additional antenna that must be routed along the windshield, creating unsightly clutter and additional steps to connect/disconnect the GPS from the car.

LG LN740 GPS navigation system

lg-ln740-965.jpg
LG’s new LN740 is the next model in LN series after LN735 which we already talked about. The two systems are very similar in terms of form factor – however LN740 comes with a slightly bigger display (4″ vs 3.5″) and also has support for FM TMC traffic channel. We believe the price difference between this and LN735 will only be $50 – $100 which would make the LN740 a better deal.

Other features and specs for LG LN740:

  • text-to-speech
  • up-to 6 hours battery life
  • built-in 2GB flash memory / SD card slot
  • MP3 playback and picture viewer

LN740 is expected to be out in April and cost around $450.
